What have you thought when you first heard about the idea to play an open air concert in the Austrian mountains in Lech?

A kind of curious I suppose. Because in Norway we don't do that sort of thing, it is usually too cold at this time of the year. As far as I understand the elevation is quite high, so it could be cold when we play. Outdoors we have played a lot and some have been quite curious. Although I have not been to this particular village before and it is supposedly to be a spectacular place. You know, I'm also a skier. And I understand this has to do with finishing off the winter season and the skiing season. I have finished my skiing season during Easter.

Are you an experienced skier?

Not alpine skiing I'm afraid. I'm more the cross-country person. Which seems to fit better in Norway, at least when I grew up. There were not many alpine pists at all. I like to go for walks on my skies, rather than downhill. There were not many lifts here in the fifties and sixties when I grew up.

Do you think that the temperature at the open air conert place could have an impact on the sound of your instruments?

It could have an impact, yes definitely. The instruments are quite delicate and they will change and pitch and everything. It is a bit of a gamble in fact, when you think of it like that. But we hope for a decent normal weather and not too cold. In that case it should work out fine. And hopefully there are good lights on stage, that will keep us and the instruments warm in the end.

Which kind of programme will you play in Lech?

Basically we do the normal concert that we like to prepare at this time. But the surroundings are quite restrictive. They impose the way of how we handle it in the end. After all much of the music we do is based on improvisation. The conditions will decide how it comes out. We will shape it according to the sound and the temperature and the people around us as far as we can oblige.

Which songs will you be playing?

It will be a mixture of really new songs which have not been recorded at all, some things have been recorded far back in 1973. I think that is the oldest piece that we do at the moment. It is a sort of a conglomerate of pieces of various periods. I don't think we play anything from my last album, which was not a group album anyway. It is a sort of look back and at the same time to bring in some new stuff, so it is a mixture.

There will be families and people in Lech which might have never heard something about you and your music. Have you had such a situation before?

Not really I suppose. I have done school concerts in Norway through out the years. So I'm not completely unfamiliar with meeting a new audience in that sense. But my policy is to play as well as we possibly can and hope that someone will enjoy it after all. I find it a little bit condescending, if I would think of making the music easier or simpler or in a special way to fit the people that I would consider have less experience. I don't really see it in that way at all. I think we have all an equal potential to enjoy music or any kind of art. And just to do it as well as we can, and hope for the best. That is my philosophy to cope with that.

The concert starts at 1 pm. Do you think the time will have an impact on the concert?

No, the time of the day doesn't really matter. There are many festivals where you might play in the earlier stages of the day. That is not uncommon. Also if we are in the studio we have to record, that is usually from the morning until midday. That should not have any impact at all on what we do I would say.

When will you meet the other band members?

I will meet my colleagues in Munich on Friday night I suppose. And we will be rehearsing on Saturday in Munich. And we will drive to Austria in the evening. I'll be ready from the morning on. The next day we need a little soundcheck and time to set up the instruments and so on.

Are you taking the opportunity to do some skiing in Lech?

Maybe I will have a quick look around. And see if it will inspire me to take up some alpine skiing next year or something like that.

What are you expecting will happen during the concert?

I expect people will be moving around, you know. It is a public place and there will be families there and so on. It definitely will not make much difference I would say. We will always try to get them involved in the music and present that as good as possible. And hope that there will be some enjoyment for the listeners as well.
