After weather conditions forced the “White Ring Race” to be postponed from Saturday to Sunday, it was initially questionable even on Sunday morning whether the clouds over Arlberg would clear. The start was delayed twice again, which proved in the end to be a fortunate decision: At 11 a.m., the first group started off under gleaming sunshine into the 22 kilometre long racing circuit.
On January 11th, one day prior to the actual race, the “White Party” was held in the Monzabon Eishalle to commemorate the 3rd “White Ring Race” Before the festivities began, “racing legends” competed in a hotly contested race for the coveted VIP starting positions.
Long a global brand as a winter sports region, Arlberg is now seeking to increase its visibility with an international image mark. The new Arlberg logo for the ski destinations St. Anton am Arlberg, St. Christoph, Stuben, Zürs and Lech was presented at the ITB in Berlin.
On 26 and 28 January 2007, the Lech Zürs Tourism Office presented the world’s largest floating stage for the fourth time in a unique setting of snow and ice. Giacomo Puccini’s opera-thriller “Tosca” filled the audience with passion and love and made the crowd shudder, as did the winter temperatures.
Why travel so far, when the good things are so close by? In Lech and Zürs am Arlberg winter athletes take delight in a good 80 lifts and cable cars across the entire Arlberg region, with approx. 270 kilometres of outstandingly well prepared slopes. The snow reaches right down to your front door!
It’s just nine days away: the opening of the Balmalp, Austria’s first non-smoking ski hut. At an elevation of 2,250 metres and located in the heart of the majestic mountain landscape of Lech and Zürs, guests will experience a combination of outstanding cuisine, smart architecture and unique natural surroundings. This special hut will be opened with a fitting party on December 21st, 2006. Many celebrants have already announced their attendance.
Undoubtedly the figures of the summer 2006 are a disappointment at first glance. However, the negative results have a positive aspect to them. For Lech it can be said that from June 06 to October 06 an increase in visitors by 3.7 percent has been registered compared to the same months of the previous year. On the one hand, an increase in growth is evident concerning arrivals, on the other hand decreases in the number of overnight stays. A successful issue this summer was Welltain® with a reservations plus of 30 percent.
If one believes the farmer’s almanac, we’re in for a heavy winter in 2006/07. Preparations for this are in full swing. Lech and Zürs can expect surprising innovations when the 2006/07 winter season opens its doors on 1 December. Attractive booking packages, exciting events and all sorts of improvements in comfort will be offered to guests.
